Statement of intent
As part of the Month of French Culture in Cuba, the National Museum of Decorative Arts of La Habana presents an exhibition around the representation of Marie Antoinette in the cuban public collections. Porcelain sculptures will evoke this emblematic queen.
In dialogue with this specific study of the cuban curator Gustavo Lopez, Olivier Perpoint, IDEATore of ICI Interna- tional Cultural Institute, proposes noli me tangere an installation of the emerging french artist Alice Guittard, winner of the second prize of the Bourse Révélations Emerige 2017. A contemporary look is put on this queen, the fantasy she has produced in the history of France and worldwide, her destiny.
Alice Guittard’s work is always borrowed from a literary, archaeological and random research work. She explored on- line and in situ French public collections.
The installation proposes a labyrinth of large printed silk panels, a series of nipples jars / bow breasts in reference to those delivered in 1788 by the Sèvres factory for the dairy of the Château de Rambouillet, tears of marble and mirrored Murano glass in reference to the Expiatory Chapel of the Conciergerie whose walls are entirely painted with black faux marble covered with silver tears and a sculpture in connection with the famous quote attributed to the queen: «If they have no bread, they eat brioche! «, little known beyond the borders of the hexagon.
Elements of this installation will join the Cuban national collections.
